Keisha Manijean’s Artist’s Statement: The Universal Love Series is a collection of artwork that connects surrealism with natural design by depicting love through various characters such as spoons, forks, knives, and trees. It is based on the concept that everybody’s gotta eat, everybody’s gotta love. Loving and eating are two of the most natural things we can do as human beings. I want to create a love movement that can be felt, seen, and experienced wherever my artwork is displayed. I view myself as a celestial storyteller, rather than an artist intending to sell pictures. Pictures are a form of communication for me. I am trying to go back to the beginning, where art was used as form of communication.
Interesting Fact About Keisha Manijean: She began drawing at the early age of five, inspired by images from Beauty and the Beast and she soon included every Disney character. She is in the process of establishing a nonprofit charity called the Just Love Movement and states, “It is all about natural born talent. I believe we all have one and if we can discover it within ourselves, we can make the world a better place.”
